absorbed and pale, you sit in front of a burning
mirror and ponder.

see how you breathe
without body or voice, betrayed

by reflection

look how you've gnawed and swallowed

memories, how
the rust is so bitter.

you are travail, an apocalypse,
sun going down.

someone has hung their gasps in
your eyes, brushing

your hair with stony silence

the evil you note is a strangled brook, still

gurgling, the curl of the shriveled
leaf, a fallen deer.
as for good there is only divine

indifference, the drowse
at noon,

the soaring wren

you are a benediction,

a destruction, gone mad
in the light

Am I the only one who likes to stare at walls? In all seriousness, beautiful poem, Jo, and the photo is captivating.

The tough days are when you sit and stare for hours, and nothing's there to stare back.

This is a hard gig. Poetry can be such a solace. I have books of it from a time when I wasn't sure I wanted to party on. Fortunately, we both came out the other side. I would have missed you... Glad I didn't.

If there are no downs there can't be any ups! I am finding poetry a blessed release of tension and emotion. Yours is packed with feeling and beautifully expressed.

You are - a poet gone light in the madness too. You have an intensity of expression that identifies the images for what you mean. I think these can cut too with their sharp edges. The divine is not indifferent to your poetry - only its fate and future, reach where it may.......
