Live performance by Texas author and poet Jo VonBargen Words and voice: Jo VonBargen Sound Engineer: Phillip Barker 8 Comments  absorbed and pale, you sit in front of a burning mirror and ponder see how you breathe without body or voice, betrayed by reflection look how you've gnawed and swallowed memories, how the rust is so bitter you are travail, an apocalypse, sun going down someone has hung their gasps in your eyes, and brushes your hair with stony silence the evil you see is the strangled brook, still gurgling, the curling of the shriveled leaf, the fallen deer for good there is only divine indifference, the drowse at noon, the cloud, the soaring wren you are a benediction, a destruction, gone mad in the light --Jo VonBargen 2011 "Beautifully written!" You see how this patch of ordinary earth transforms into a crucible Beyond the bed curtain I hit a sheer wall of rage that you, my beloved, suffered for even a nanosecond, heaving, sucking at air to extract simple O2 Then you found it, the hole in the surly net that held you down, to deftly jump out and flee Go. I've prayed hard for this.
